Shelving And The Correct Positioning Of Your Wines.

The position in which you store your wine bottles is crucial when preserving its organoleptic (sight smell and taste) the qualities and the characteristics of your wine

This is why in most cases you should always try to place your bottles in a horizontal position, in this way, you will allow the wine and the cork to be in permanent contact.

This will prevent the cork from drying out, which would lose its elasticity, and the closure of the bottle would no longer be airtight.

It also allows the wine to rest appropriately and evolve in the most natural way possible.

But there is always the exception to the rule in this case its sparkling wines, they defiantly perform better stored vertically.

As an exception the storage of sparkling wines (cava’s, champagne, etc.) upright is because of the presence of carbonic gas, which tends to rise, this allows the cork to maintain the ideal humidity level.

Also the vertical arrangement of the bottle itself also benefits the flavours and the conservation of carbon in these drinks.

Well there’s great news from Weald Refrigeration they are able to manufacture wine chillers in an almost unlimited range of styles, finishes, and shelving options and they can design almost any unit that  you have in mind.

And please remember not all wines improve with time, which is why it is essential to distinguish which wines are good to keep for longer and which are better to drink now.

You will soon learn to differentiate between them, and take into account factors such as the age of the wine, the vintage, the place of origin, the type of grape with which it is made, and, above all the correct placement of those bottles in your new Weald Refrigeration wine chiller.

I know so much to learn, but as a general rule, young wines should be drunk in the year they were harvested.
