There are several appliances on the market designed to store your wine; here’s some advice from weald on deciding which one to choose.

If the new wine cooler is a domestic unit for your home think about how much space you believe you need, and then double it, since your wine collection is likely to grow.

Also, most wine manufacturers use Bordeaux- size bottles to estimate how many bottles will fit in a particular unit; collections with wider bottles, such as those used for Burgundy and Champagne, will take up more space and lower the unit’s total bottle capacity.

Bottles should also be stored on their side to keep the cork moist and prevent air from entering. Screw cap bottles and sparkling wines can be stored upright.

Think about how much you need to store: units which fit under the worktops will carry no more than about 40 bottles – just over 3 cases.
